Artemis II Crew Lunar Flyby Photography Training

January 27, 2026

NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Jeremy Hansen train for their venture around the Moon. The Artemis II crew will be the first people in more than 50 years to set eyes on the far side of the Moon, depending on illumination conditions. They will document their observations through photographs, audio recordings, and more to inform our understanding of the Moon, and share their experience of being far from Earth. The Artemis II test flight will help confirm the foundational systems and hardware needed for human deep space exploration. This is the first crewed flight under NASA’s Artemis campaign and is another step toward new U.S.-crewed missions on the Moon’s surface and helping the agency prepare for sending the first astronauts to Mars. This resource reel includes lunar flyby photography training footage recorded in November 2025 at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. — NASA — Return to the Moon Source: NASA (https://images.nasa.gov/) Licence: Public domain (work of the U.S. federal government, 17 U.S.C. §105) Audio is served by the publisher; Budi does not host or modify it.

0:00A reminder on the fly-by day to see if you guys are all right back in that mindset. The two of you are probably more in that mind set, just having done it a couple days ago. You'll have 30 minutes, all four of you at the same time, before this. Be aware that if you go into that area, you need to park that in safety bubbles. General reminders for the mock-up itself.

0:22There's some desire to restructure that post three hour time frame, which is great. So I know Jackie can play around with it. I'm also thinking I'm going to block codes in case my cargo directions have accidentally flipped.

6:56We're thinking about this training activity, we had thought we'd see you guys in a flyby since your timeline before flight day six to like configure the cabin how you want it and it's like day two here but literally today I found out I got moved to flight day three and then the priorities after that are audio files, lunar images, and your OneNote which we have created for you after. Okay so for today Lunar Flyby we're doing block one 20 minutes then 40 minutes then 20 minutes we'll send you reminders through Jenny I'll be her science officer saying what's expected for the science sitrep as well as a reference so I think you guys could provide very like a little bit more detailed feedback on what it looks like

9:34and then that is also nice if you need to see the buttons unfortunately doesn't You do not need to run that procedure. Okay, then help me out. We were handed these packets of paper in the briefing. So presumably I would be like, cool, I'm 1027.

10:50I think we should just, if that's important, I think that we should add it if cabin is big. Like, which crew member has a cabin? You said body position the pairs are in, but like specifically...
